What we do

From 15 December 2011, the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education was established. This website will be updated to reflect Machinery of Government changes in due course and content from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations will be transitioned to this site.

The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research strives to encourage the sustainable growth of Australian industries by developing a national innovation system that drives knowledge creation, cutting edge science and research, international competitiveness and greater productivity.

The Department will publish rules, guidelines, practices and precedents relating to functions and powers for policy and program delivery on the individual program or policy page. Information about our programs and services can be found below.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance) released a model set of Chief Executive’s Instructions (CEIs) on 7 July 2011 and the department is currently working to update the department's CEIs to incorporate these model CEIs.  Once this process is completed the department's CEIs will be published.
