APEC Future Economic Leaders' Think Tank
| | On 27-30 May 2007, the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP, Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources, hosted the 8th Energy Ministers (EMM8) in Darwin, Northern Territory. The EMM8 Meeting focused on the challenges facing APEC economies in meeting growing energy demand in a secure, sustainable and equitable manner. The Meeting also looked to advance policies and technologies that promote the development of clean energy and the improvement of energy efficiency while reducing the impact on the environment and addressing climate change objectives. APEC member economies acknowledged that energy and energy supply is essential to maintaining the region's economic growth and social development. In recognition of this, the Energy Working Group, Industry Forums and workshops held supported the EMM8 agenda and provided opportunities for information exchange, bilateral meetings and policy development.
