A new Graduate Accountant Program has been developed in conjunction with DIISR’s generalist Graduate Development Program. We have opportunities for Graduate Accountants to work in areas responsible for managing the overall financial performance of an organisation with a budget of two and a half billion dollars.
Training
DIISR is an accredited CPA and CA agency and will provide study assistance for CPA or CA qualification.
We recognise that to remain at the forefront of financial management leadership we need to attract the right people and therefore we ensure our staff acquire the right experience and receive the appropriate training to develop and strengthen their personal insight and leadership skills and enhance career prospects.
As a Graduate Accountant, you will have on-the-job and off-the-job training designed to give you the skills you need to meet the challenges of working in the Public Sector. On successful completion of the program you’ll be awarded a Certificate Level IV in Government.
Workplace Rotations
In your first year, you will have three different work placements across the Department. On your first work placement, as part of the Corporate Finance Branch, you could be involved in a range of financial management or reporting functions, which may cover:
- Measuring and reporting on the Department’s performance;
- Negotiation and liaison with other Government agencies;
- Financial analysis and reporting;
- Budget analysis and reporting; and
- Policy and Procedures.
As well as working in the Department’s central finance area, there will be opportunities to work in the operational areas of the organisation.
Major Project
You will have the opportunity to be involved in working with your fellow graduate accountants on a major strategic project to be presented to DIISR’s Executive.
End of the Program
While you’re on the Graduate Accountant Program, you will be paid a starting salary of $46,974. On the successful completion of the 2009 Program, you will advance to a salary of $56,998. Further information about Pay and Conditions.
Once you’ve completed the Graduate Accountant Program, you can also apply for support for further study to improve your professional skills and knowledge.
To be eligible you will need to have completed (or be due for completion by the end of December 2008) at least an undergraduate degree with an accounting major.
