The home-based business sector represents approximately 70 per cent of Australia’s small businesses. The Australian, State and Territory Governments recognise the importance of home-based businesses to Australia’s economy and have co-produced the publication Home-Based Business: Local Opportunities. The booklet, available at the bottom of this page, showcases some of Australia’s best home-based businesses and some of the proactive support local councils are giving them. It also provides guidelines for local governments and planning authorities to create a better regulatory environment for home-based businesses.

For more information on the booklet email the Industry and Small Business Policy Division.
