Rail Manufacturing Industry Report

The Rail Manufacturing Industry Report, published in July 2011, is the first time the Australian rail manufacturing sector has been surveyed to gain a better estimate of its size and scale. This is a significant first step to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the sector, and to inform industry and government decision making and to develop policies that ensure rail companies are in the best position to be successful.

Rail Manufacturing Technology Roadmap

On Track to 2040 will develop a technology roadmap for the Australian rail supply sector. The roadmap launched on 17 June 2011 will identify current and future technologies and capabilities needed to meet these challenges and opportunities, as well as implementation plans. The project relies on the contributions of all stakeholders, from operators, manufacturers and service providers, to researchers, policymakers and industry bodies, through workshops, interviews and surveys, to develop a unified vision and strategic plan to see the vision realised. The project is being delivered by ANU Edge with the CRC for Rail Innovation, the University of Cambridge Institute for Manufacturing and Strategic Connections Group.

On Track to 2040 – Vision [PDF 3.1MB] documents the first stage of the roadmap.

The project is now entering Phase 4, with three one day workshops being held in February 2012 focused on the identified priority areas of: monitoring and management; power and propulsion; materials and manufacturing. The facilitated workshops will examine the paths to realising future opportunities including gaps and barriers and how these might be addressed. If your organisation understands technologies and capabilities in these areas than you are encouraged to attend the workshops, For more information please email anuedge@anu.edu.au.
