The Resources Sector Supplier Advisory Forum will help key stakeholders to strengthen Australian industry participation in the resources sector. The strategic work initiated by the forum will be implemented by working groups, consisting of forum members and their representatives, Supplier Advocates and government agencies.
The forum meets one to two times annually and is chaired by the Resources Sector Supplier Envoy.

Role of the working groups
Working groups will implement the strategic work of the Forum. The Working Groups will consist of Supplier Advocates, government agencies, forum members and their representatives, manufacturers and resources firms.
Three working groups were formed following the first Resources Sector Supplier Advisory Forum meeting. It was agreed that the first working group will develop an innovation document which will examining our current research strengths and how these can create opportunities in resources sector supply chains. The development of the innovation document will be led by;
- Dr Calum Drummond, Group Executive, Manufacturing, Materials and Minerals at the CSIRO
- Professor Chris Moran, Director of the Sustainable Minerals Institute, University of Queensland
The second working group will address ‘How to win work’ covering issues such as tendering, including the complexity of pre-qualification and lengthy tender documents; capacity building and partnerships/collaborations both domestically and intentionally; the need for early engagement by suppliers; and engaging with procurement officers in Australia and around the world. The working group comprises;

The third group will address ‘How to Finance Growth’. This deals with financing capacity building; how large companies can give smaller companies a helping hand; financing exports and an examination of the existing government programs. The ‘How to Finance Growth’ working group comprises;

Role of the department
The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research will provide policy and secretariat support for the Forum. This support includes helping create links between stakeholders, helping to promote the Forum's work and managing research activities.
The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr and the Minister for Resources and Energy, the Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP announced the establishment of the Resources Sector Supplier Advisory Forum in a media release on 10 May 2011 as part of the Buy Australian at Home and Abroad initiative.
