Building an Innovative Culture
Innovation is a key driver of productivity and competitiveness, stimulating the creation of new industries and new jobs, as well as revitalising mature industries. Innovation can strengthen the economy and society.
The Government’s aim is to create sustainable conditions for innovation to flourish to support its economic, environmental and social priorities. Powering Ideas: An Innovation Agenda for the 21st Century provides the Government’s ten year reform agenda to make Australia more productive and more competitive.
Championing Innovation
The Government is engaging with stakeholders and facilitating the collaboration of business and research to strengthen Australia’s innovation system through its inclusive Industry Innovation Councils (Councils). See stories on innovation in industry in Australia.
What Councils Do

Membership
Membership of Councils is by ministerial appointment. Innovation leaders from industry, unions and professional organisations, science and research agencies, and government are appointed for their knowledge, experience and expertise.
