To further support the implementation of the Inspiring Australia strategy, experts across Australia are working together to develop recommendations for enhancing science engagement in areas requiring further analysis. The outcomes of these working groups focus on providing a coherent, national approach to engaging communities with the sciences.
Draft reports for comment
Inspiring Australia has commissioned six Expert Working Groups to date. The four most recent Expert Working Groups are presently seeking public comment on their draft reports, which are available below. This public consultation phase, closing 31 May 2012, is an opportunity for all those who have not been involved in the reports' drafting to provide expert comment to assist in the finalising of their content and recommendations. An online system has been developed to facilitate feedback on the reports; alternatively, comments can be registered with the Working Group convenors listed below. Comments of support for themes and ideas are also welcome. Please find below the four draft reports:
These reports include recommendations to help achieve some of the Inspiring Australia report recommendations such as Principle 8, regarding community engagement, and Principle 9, regarding building effective networks. The reports are particularly concerned with Unlocking Australia's Full Potential (Principle 12) and its objective of ensuring a more equitable Australia through maximising the potential of people who have had minimal interest or access to science engagement activities. The background and interim statements for these groups are still available online under their respective areas of Marine, Tropical, Desert and Indigenous engagement.
Reports
Inspiring Australia has also made available the following reports of the initial two Expert Working Groups:
The recommendations contained in these reports and their prioritisation were discussed at the March 2011 Inspiring Australia National Conference. We are keen to hear from you how you might act upon these recommendations. Be sure to let us know what you are doing so that we can collaborate and avoid duplication.
