KEY POINTS
- The objectives of the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) scheme are to:
- attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in Australian higher education providers (HEPs); and
- support Australia's research effort.
- The IPRS program enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers.
- The scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs for scholarship holders, and health cover costs of their dependants.
- Scholarships are open to international students of all countries (except New Zealand) and are available for a period of two years for a research masters by research degree or three years for a research doctorate.

Evaluation in FY 2009-10
During FY 2009-10, an evaluation of the IPRS has been undertaken. The results of the evaluation.
Eligibility and target audience
To be eligible for funding, HEPs must be listed in sections 16-15 and 16-20 of the Higher Education Support Act 2003. Eligible HEPs are provided with block grants for continuing and new awards each year.
