As a department we aim to meet the expectations of our Ministers and Parliamentary Secretary, and to work with our key stakeholders to achieve the Australian Government’s priorities.

The 2010 – 2012 Strategic Statement sets out the department’s key strategic priorities for the coming two years:

  • Australian industry development and investment
  • Business innovation
  • Science and research skills and capacity
  • Collaboration and coordination

These strategic priorities have been developed in line with the Australian Government’s key priorities—building a stronger, fairer Australia that is prepared for the challenges of the future. The department’s priorities draw strongly from Powering Ideas an Innovation Agenda for the 21st Century, the Australian Government’s 10-year reform agenda to make Australia more productive and competitive, and the department’s extensive policy agenda for Australian industry. Implementing the government’s innovation agenda will assist in increasing Australia’s productivity, leading to a more prosperous Australia that is equipped to deal with the dynamic global environment.
