Objective

Content Syndication makes it easy for business operators to find the government information they need to run their business. Federal, state and local government information is placed on as many partner websites as possible, including websites for local government bodies, industry associations, and private and public companies.

Goals of Content Syndication

  • To build partnerships with a range of organisations.
  • To increase participation amongst industry/professional associations.
  • To simplify the syndication process for partners.

Significance for Australian Business

Content Syndication provides information that is relevant to specific business operations, such as superannuation, employing staff, paying tax and more recently environmental management. Businesses do not need to go from one government website to another to find the information they need. This reduces the time businesses spend on government compliance activities, and contributes to the growth of the business sector.

Content Syndication is also valuable for organisations that realise the benefits of providing accurate information about government regulations and services to their business clients. For example business advisory services, councils and industry and professional associations can, with minimal effort and cost, provide greater information to their business community.

Departmental role and current achievements

The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, through business.gov.au, provides businesses with aggregated information and services from all levels of government when and where they need it.

As at April 2008, 455 partners or websites were utilising syndicated content. Syndication of government information in this way is a world first and the number of organisations participating in the project is steadily growing.

Targets for 2008-09

  • Further develop and promote the syndication services to prospective partners.
  • Build partnerships with a range of organisations.
