The Minister for Education and Training, Simon Birmingham, has announced $4.9 million in funding for another eleven research projects through the Australian Research Council Linkage Projects scheme.

From 1 July 2016, the council started accepting proposals under the scheme on a continuous basis―a National Science and Innovation Agenda initiative―to encourage collaboration between researchers and business. The newest grants include projects to develop bank notes which are harder to counterfeit and to develop new 4D petroleum exploration technology. The developers are hoping to commercialise their technologies for export around the world.
