Professor Keith Smith

Professor of Innovation, Australian Innovation Research Centre.

Adjunct Professor of Innovation, Centre for Technology and Culture, University of Oslo.

Current Research

Professor Keith Smith has worked extensively on issues related to the economics of innovation.

His work has concentrated on the nature and dynamics of innovation processes, on innovation systems theories, on innovation in low-technology industries, innovation and growth in resource-based economies, and the development and analysis of innovation indicators. Prof Smith also works on the foundations of public policies supporting innovation.

Prof Smith has consulted extensively for companies and policy agencies, including transnational agencies such as the OECD and the European Commission.

Professional Activities

European Commission at the Joint Research Centre in Seville, Spain, on policy issues related to the European Research Area.

Professor at the Institute for New Technologies, United Nations University, in the Netherlands, 2001-2003.

Professor of Economics of Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, 1995-2001

Director of the Group for Studies in Technology, Innovation and Economic Policy (STEP) in Oslo (1991-2000)

He has been a Visiting Professor at Chalmers University, Gothenberg, Sweden; the ANU, Canberra, and the University of Western Sydney.
