Biography

Professor Suzi Vaughan

Suzi Vaughan is originally from the UK, and completed her fashion training at St Martin's School of Art in London. She began her career as a freelance womenswear designer, exhibiting for several years under the label Wilbraham Vaughan.

In 1988, Vaughan began working exclusively for womenswear design company Keoma International in Hong Kong and London, travelling extensively in Asia and the United States and Canada to develop the company's American label Terranova.

She then became senior womenswear designer for H.Q. DESIGN in London, where she was responsible for the design of the Jeff Banks collection, and reported directly to Jeff Banks. This position earned Vaughan a reputation as a versatile designer, with her design range encompassing ski-wear, ready-to-wear suits and separates, as well as catalogue ranges.

Vaughan went on in 1991 to be an account manager for womensear design and product development at Tillsonburg Co. Ltd in Hong Kong, with day-to-day control of the company's US $20 million Lerner New York account. She was responsible for all design, product development and liaison with American buyers for the label.

In 1995, Vaughan returned to the UK as a design lecturer, and later, as course director of the fashion design and technology course at the London College of Fashion. There, she led and managed the college's degree course in menswear, womenswear, surface textiles for fashion, and accessories, which had a total enrolment of about 380 students.

Vaughan came to QUT in 2002, and is QUT's inaugural head of fashion.
